Honour your mistakes: learn from them instead of destroying the evidence. If you don’t have anything to compare your growth to, you’ll never know how far you’ve come. There’s no use in being selfish or cruel – the world is small and this industry is even smaller. Be sincere, care deeply and don’t work in your pyjamas.

Ping Zhu is a Los Angeles native who has been working and living in London for the last 3 years. She illustrates mainly with gouache on paper (only digitally if necessary) and has graced the pages of the New York Times, the New Yorker, TOWN Magazine and Jamie Magazine. As well as editorial work, she has collaborated with advertising agencies such as Pentagram, Concrete and VSA Partners. Her first book Swan Lake was published by Nobrow Press in 2012, and she has illustrated covers for Pushkin Press and children’s book publisher Hèlium. She was a Pick Me Up Select in 2013 and has exhibited work in the US and Europe. She very much hopes to one day own a dachshund, or any dog with dachshund proportions.
